Akron, OH

Akron-Summit County Public Library

The Akron PTRC, this last year has been a combination of new things and the traditional “business as usual” activities. Our patent team is myself and Michele McNeal. Our newest librarian, Stephanie Jolliff is currently learning to teach the two IP classes we have on a monthly basis. Those are “Introduction to Intellectual Property” and “Introduction to Patents & Patent Searching”.

We have a new staff member, Chad Weaver who started this past year and he is attending the PTRC conference with Stephanie Jolliff. Continue reading

Ann Arbor, MI

University of Michigan

The Ann Arbor MI PTRC is located in the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library (AAEL) in the Duderstadt Center at the University of Michigan. AAEL houses the Art & Design, Architecture & Urban Planning and Engineering Collections. We provided intellectual property support to our faculty and students including special innovation offices like Tech Transfer, and Medical Innovation from the university and we also worked with independent inventors from the state of Michigan.

We had the USPTO Detroit Satellite office come in talk to 7 classes this academic year  and they also had a session at Ann Arbor Spark which is a innovation center in Ann Arbor. Continue reading

Georgia Tech University

Georgia Tech PTRC was designated in 1946. At least seven librarians have served as a PTRC representative since then. Lisha Li is the current PTRC Representative and patent librarian.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Georgia Tech Library becoming a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC), we organized a patent exhibit on campus in Oct. 2016. I am Karen Kitchens the State Publications Librarian at the Wyoming State Library (WSL), located in Cheyenne. Linda Kocis is the Intellectual Property Librarian at the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County. She oversees the Patent & Trademark Resource Center, which is housed in the Information & Reference Department at the Main Library in downtown Cincinnati. In addition to courses in patent and trademark searching, Linda meets with customers individually to answer all types of questions including those about filing applications. Our Highland Heights, Kentucky PTRC at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) reached out to over 1,000 constituents this past year via two-dozen community workshops and NKU business/informatics classes, as well as over 100 one-on-one research consultations. IP Librarian John Schlipp taught LIN405 Intellectual Property & Information Rights, a full semester course for our Bachelor’s in Library Informatics degree at NKU. John also presented a workshop to 40 Nursing Professional Instructors at St. Elizabeth Healthcare of Northern Kentucky. Continue reading

Aloha, and welcome to the Hawaii State Library Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC).  The Hawaii State Library has been a patent and trademark resource center since December 18, 1989.  The PTRC is located within the Federal Document Section of the library.

The PTRC in Fondren Library at Rice University has been busy as usual with monthly patent search classes for area inventors taught alternately by Siu Min Yu and Linda Spiro.  Siu has also taught a few trademark classes and Linda continues to offer an extension to the basic patent searching class. Here at the Hennepin County Library I continued to do my monthly patent workshop, alternating between the downtown Central Library and the suburban Southdale Library where I work two days a week.

We are still happily partnering with LegalCORPS, an IP pro bono organization, to present two classed lead by IP attorneys: Protecting Your Ideas: Intellectual Property Basics for Inventors and Writing and Filing a Provisional Patent Application. Continue reading

Evansdale Library at West Virginia University has been a depository since 1991. The Evansdale Library serves Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, Education, Creative Arts and Physical Education. Independent as well as university inventors come to the Evansdale Library for assistance. I continue to work with university departments, WVU’s LaunchLab, the WVU Law School’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic and the WVU Office of Technology Transfer as well as independent inventors.
