Greetings from Rutgers University!

This is Connie Wu, Engineering and Patent Information Specialist, at Library of Science and Medicine at Rutgers University Libraries. Rutgers University (RUL) has been a PTRC since May 9, 1989. I have been working for PTRC since day one!

2016 is a year with changes at RUL. Dr. Krisellen Maloney, our new vice president for information services and university librarian since July 15, 2015, has been leading us to make structure changes. Continue reading

Rochester, NY

Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County
Submitted by: Deborah Nevin

2016 was a year of change for our Center.  In February I took over as manager from Kate Meddaugh.  Our Center has been located in the Science and History Division since its inception in 1999 and Kate masterly led it for 10 years. Being no fool, I didn’t let Kate totally retire from the Center!  We continue to be funded by Catherine Carlson, daughter of Chester F. Carlson, inventor of xerography.

We continue to do programs at surrounding libraries to promote the Center and spread IP knowledge.  Continue reading

Salt Lake City, UT

University of Utah
Submitted by: Dave Morrison

The Salt Lake City PTRC was designated a Patent Depository Library (PDL) in 1984 with Juli Hinz – head of the Government Documents Division – as the first Patent Representative.  I was hired as one of the government documents librarians and joined the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah in January 1987.  A little more than thirty years later, and I am now about to retire in August 2017.

This year’s activities have been much like other years.  Continue reading

Working in conjunction with our Innovation Center, we are very busy connecting with our local entrepreneurs. In conjunction with the San Diego Mayor’s Office, we were delighted to host the Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks this past year at a seminar for the local IP community. We are planning a series of programs on IP in the coming year in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office, Continue reading

The Oklahoma State University Library has been a Patent and Trademark Depository Library since 1956. We are housed in the main University Library and are part of the Government Documents Department, a regional depository for federal government documents. Our OSU patents website includes most of our service information and links to information for inventors at USPTO: https://info.library.okstate.edu/patent-and-trademark-resource-center

We are enthusiastic about working with the USPTO Texas Regional Office and are looking forward to an IP program with them in Tulsa in 2017. Continue reading

University Park, PA

The Pennsylvania State University
Submitted by: John J. Meier

We are located in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences (PAMS) Library at Penn State University.  We have been a PTRC for over 35 years and the PTRC has been in PAMS for over 10 years.  The University president started an Invent Penn State initiative about 2 years ago, and the impact has been amazing.  We have growth in users all over Pennsylvania, so librarians at other campuses across the state have been trained in patent searching. Continue reading
