Our Highland Heights, Kentucky PTRC at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) reached out to over 1,000 constituents this past year via two-dozen community workshops and NKU business/informatics classes, as well as over 100 one-on-one research consultations. IP Librarian John Schlipp taught LIN405 Intellectual Property & Information Rights, a full semester course for our Bachelor’s in Library Informatics degree at NKU. John also presented a workshop to 40 Nursing Professional Instructors at St. Elizabeth Healthcare of Northern Kentucky. John met with business and science librarians at the University of Kentucky (UK). At UK, John discussed the PTRC program, patent searching basics, and competitive patent landscape searching. Once again, we teamed up with our NKU Chase College of Law, to present a Cybersquatting and Branding workshop where over 120 regional attorneys and paraprofessionals attended. We exhibited at Boone County High School’s World Maker & Inventor Expo in Florence, KY where over 400 attended their inaugural event. Our PTRC offered multiple P-12 educator workshops, including a summer forum entitled “Research Skills for STEM Teachers and Librarians,” with exuberant guest speaker Alford Kindred, Supervisory Patent Examiner from the USPTO. We also collaborated with our local Small Business Development Center to present multiple Business Start-Up workshops for entrepreneurs and inventors entitled, “Start and Grow Your Business.”
