Akron, OH

Akron-Summit County Public Library

It has been a busy year at the Akron, OH PTRC this last year.

We hosted representatives from the USPTO twice in the last year. In March of last year, Alford Kindred from the Detroit regional USPTO office did 2 programs at our library, one geared toward patent attorneys in the afternoon and one geared toward inventors in the evening. Last month, James O. Wilson from the Detroit Regional USPTO office spoke to our local inventors’ club that meets here at our library. Continue reading

UMass Amherst PTRC continues to thrive and grow.  I continue to maintain an active PTRC collection of materials for self-service and outreach, as well as regular low tech bulletin board displays to educate the community.  The ever popular May Day plant patent celebration is now a regular fixture in the patent education cycle.  The big news is that I strategically pivoted all my liaison department assignments with one goal in mind – plant patents!  I am now the liaison to all the agriculture and agriculture related departments and have been reaching out to places on campus such as the herbarium, Continue reading

Ann Arbor, MI PTRC is located in the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library (AAEL) in the Duderstadt Center at the University of Michigan. AAEL houses the Art & Design, Architecture & Urban Planning and Engineering Collections. In March 2019,  we had 3 Trademarks workshops presented  by Craig Morris, two were on Trademark Basics and one was Outreach Program for Graphic Designers.  Leena Lalwani was also part of Center for Entrepreneurship panel at Washtenaw Community College in Fall 2018 which was attended by students and community at large. Continue reading

The Georgia Tech Library joined the PTRC (then Patent Depository Library) Program in 1946. Over seven decades, as the only PTRC in Georgia, we have assisted thousands of inventors and entrepreneurs, on campus and from the public, in pursuing their intellectual property protection that led to startups, products launch and business development, making economic impact in the state and beyond. Auburn University Libraries spent last year with an interim Dean, but Shali Zhang is our new Dean and started work this past December.  I have started to look for new ways to talk to students on campus beyond classes and I have visited several engineering clubs to talk about the library in general and introduce myself as the patent librarian.  In addition, I have taken on duties as a more general IP librarian and have started to research questions involving copyrights. Continue reading

She oversees the Patent & Trademark Resource Center, which is housed in the Information & Reference Department at the Main Library in downtown Cincinnati. We have had another great year here at Clemson.  And not just because we are the National Football Champions. It is hard to follow having the PTRCP team visit your library for programs and fellowship.  I highly recommend hosting the team.  Such wonderful benefits to your patrons!  Although we didn’t have any big events this year, I did meet with lots of patent searchers – many of whom were students enrolled in Senior Design for Bioengineering.  Continue reading

Cleveland Public Library’s (CPL) PTRC is located in the Science & Technology Dept. We have 5 staff that can assist with IP: Don Boozer, Rose Mary Hoge, Elvira Baron, Peter London, and Jim Bettinger, PTRC Representative. There is 3 capable staff in Government Documents Dept. that assists with IP as well: Sarah Dobransky, Alea Lytle, and Erick Walker. The Science & Technology Dept., located on the 3rd floor of the Louis Stokes Wing, has four machines with 24” monitors that access PubWEST and PubEAST.   Continue reading

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Library has been a PTRC since 2000.  Our PTRC collection is located in the Information commons area of the main library.  Access to PubWEST and PubEAST is through the Information Desk.  We established a PTRC only workstation area for more privacy.

In 2017, we had 186 requests for intellectual property information through email, telephone, and appointments.  Community presentations had 47 attendees.

In 2018, two of our librarians were promoted away from our department.  Kalana Cooper, who you may have met last year, has become an assistant manager at one of our branches.  Our current librarian staff are Roger Morton, Karen Core, Meghan McGowan and Mary Kordyban.  We also have 6 support staff.
