Submitted by: Marian Armour-Gemmen

Evansdale Library at West Virginia University has been a depository since 1991. The Evansdale Library serves Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, Education, Creative Arts and Physical Education. Independent as well as university inventors come to the Evansdale Library for assistance. I continue to work with the WVU Office of Technology Transfer who routinely sends university inventors to meet with me.

This year I gave several presentations about intellectual property in particular looking at fair use and mash-ups. Continue reading

“Chemistry research at Rutgers #1 in the nation for federal funding” – read all about it at http://vpr.rutgers.edu/news/node/86. The Rutgers University Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology has been among the top ten universities for research grants for over five years, but this is the first time it has reached number one status. Plans are underway for a new building for the department. Meanwhile the Library of Science and Medicine is conducting a search for the Chemistry and Physics Librarian position, Continue reading

Pittsburgh, PA

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
Submitted by: Irene Yelovich

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has been a Patent and Trademark Depository Library (now Resource Center) since 1902. I’ve been the patents and government documents librarian here in the Reference Services Department since August, 2010, and the past year and a half or so has been, and continues to be, a huge learning experience.

Most of the people who come to us for patent or trademark help are walk-in patrons with very little idea of where to start. Continue reading

Rochester, NY

Chester F. Carlson Center, Rochester, NY
Submitted by: Kate Meddaugh

We’ve seen an increase in use of the Center and believe it’s primarily due to articles in our local paper. Back in September, a local columnist did a series of articles on Rochester, NY and patents, reminding readers that we are ranked among the top 5 of Patents per Capita. He spotlighted the Library and the Carlson Center, with all of the great resources we have to offer people conducting patent and trademark research. He had a follow up article on Sunday, Continue reading

Salt Lake City, UT

University of Utah, J. Willard Marriott Library
Submitted by: Dave Morrison

The Salt Lake City PTRC is part of the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah. The Marriott Library was first designated a PDL in 1984, as trademarks were not yet a part of the depository program. In subsequent years we were designated a PTDL library, and have also been a federal (or Government Printing Office [GPO]) depository since 1893; a U.S. Department of Energy depository; United Nations, European Union, World Trade Organization and UNESCO depository; Continue reading

Seattle, WA

University of Washington
Submitted by: Christina Byrne

The Seattle PTRC is located in the Engineering Library at the University of Washington. The Engineering Library has been a PTDL/PTRC since 1977.

Our website moved to a new content management platform, so we took the opportunity to update the Patents and Trademarks section of the site. Most of the subject information has been put into a LibGuide (Springshare). The LibGuide is still a work in progress, but it will be easier to edit and update. Continue reading

Oklahoma State University Edmon Low Library
Submitted by: Suzanne Reinman

The Oklahoma State University Library has been a Patent and Trademark Depository Library since 1956. We are housed in the main University Library and are part of the Government Documents Department, a regional depository for federal government documents.

Researchers/inventors make appointments with us to work one-on-one, and we have many contacts by phone. Our website includes most of our service information and links to information for inventors at USPTO: http://www.library.okstate.edu/patents/. The How to Conduct a Preliminary U.S. Continue reading
