The Engineering Library here at the University of Washington has been a PTRC since 1977. Next year will be our 40th anniversary! (Birthday? 🙂 ) A University group is working on identifying and documenting UW inventions, and research milestones to capture the UW’s history of innovation, so it may be something we can highlight as part of our 40 year history as a PDL/PTDL/PTRC.
My annual guest lecture on patents & trademarks for the UW Information School Government Publications class continues to be a standout program of our year. The students are enthusiastic and inquisitive. The students in the law librarianship program offer a different perspective on intellectual property information.
We have migrated our research guides to LibGuides 2, so we are planning on a redesign and updating of our PTRC information pages and research information.
We at the UW Libraries are in the midst of an organizational review initiative, including the realignment of several administrative groups and the recruitment for a new Associate Dean position. The University is in the midst of a new campus masterplan, and the Libraries is part of that process. Additionally, the Libraries has embarked on a joint visioning project with the College of Engineering concerning the Engineering Library, including spaces, student services and other areas of opportunity and cooperation. The College of Engineering recently stepped up to add and support engineering productivity software on computers in our lab.
