The Business Insight Center (where the Carlson Center for Intellectual Property lives) is so pleased to welcome Melissa Cobo to full time! She had been part time since April 2021, meaning our division had 2.5 FTE’s. Her being full time is a huge asset.
We’ve partnered with Syracuse University’s Innovation Law Center; my boss Jennifer and I teach students at the beginning of each semester about the services we offer, as well as conduct preliminary prior art searching and business analytics instruction.
We presented to the 4th cohort of Luminate finalists. This initiative brings the best startups with optics, photonics, and imaging technologies to the Finger Lakes Region to tap into resources and grow the economy. Each finalist receives an initial investment of $100,000 and will have the chance to compete for up to $2million. We assisted 4 of the 6 Luminate winners.
Business First Wednesday monthly program put on by the SBDC via Zoom covers topics such as IP, taxes for small businesses, and venture capital for start-ups. These are well-attended by entrepreneurs.
We continue to hold office hours at a local University and NextCorps(an environment where entrepreneurs and businesses can connect with experts, capital, customers, and community.)
We’re working with HempLab(an organization that works to educate communities about the workings of the cannabis industry ecosystem from seed to sale, incubating businesses looking to find their niche, and accelerating the industry as a whole).
