Evansdale Library at West Virginia University has been a depository since 1991. The Evansdale Library serves Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, Education, Creative Arts and Physical Education. Independent as well as university inventors come to the Evansdale Library for assistance. I continue to work with university departments, WVU’s LaunchLab, the WVU Law School’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic and the WVU Office of Technology Transfer as well as independent inventors.
The WVU Law School participates in the USPTO Clinical Certification for Trademarks. Because of my relationship with the Law School’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic, I am featured demonstrating trademark searching and participate in some of their contacts with the USPTO.
In November I was involved in the organization of a seminar held at the WVU Law School, entitled: “Intellectual Property Condensed: What Every Inventor, Small Business Owner and Lawyer Should Know.” The keynote speaker was Craig Morris from the USPTO Trademark office. I was invited to present a 20 minute lecture on patent searching.
I continue to work closely with WVU’s LaunchLab which helps students build businesses through guidance and grants. This May we took advantage of one of the USPTO;s webinars by cohosting the “Webinar about Pro Se, Pro Bono, and Law School Clinic Certification Programs.”
West Virginia University recently purchased an additional campus in Beckley, WV. In October, at the dedication of the new WVU Beckley campus, I was happy to attend the LaunchLab in Beckley’s opening. Because of the growing need for networking across the state (WV Wesleyan and WVU Beckley) I obtained a GoTo Meeting account.
The as the engineering librarian, I continue to work with Freshman Engineering. Part of this contact involves an Intellectual Property module that runs on the Blackboard Platform. This module reaches around 1,000 freshman engineering students.
Other classes that I have had opportunity to speak to about patents and trademarks include Horticulture 220, Law, the IGERT(Interdisciplinary Graduate Education and Research Traineeships) group, MAE Senior design (both in Morgantown and in Montgomery, WV), and Chemical Engineering Senior Design. Each class I specifically designed searches or demonstrations of their respective subject areas.
The PTRC in Morgantown, WV reached people across the WVU Campuses and across the state of West Virginia, expanding and enhancing people’s knowledge of intellectual property.
