Aloha to all of you and hope you are coping with the severe weather changes we are reading about in Hawaii. Emily Dovermann, Arlene Nagamine and I have been trying to reestablish our PubWEST connection. Our old Cassis computer was starting to give us problems, so I thought this would be the time to try and get an updated computer and operating system in place since Windows XP is scheduled to be unsupported in a few years. Nine months later, I got a used computer with Windows XP installed and I lost my PubWEST connection. My IT people don’t understand why we are having any connection problems and, due to numerous other higher priority projects, we are still waiting to be connected. Ah progress, you gotta love it.
Our library was recently honored by being selected as a Depository Spotlight Library for June 2012 in the Federal Depository Library Program. I believe that we were the first PTRC to be chosen. One of the reasons for this honor was our connection with PTRCP. Our article is located at http://www.fdlp.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1258:hawaiilbirary-junespotlight&catid=186:spotlight&Itemid=150 and in FDLP Connections, Volume 2, Issue 6. Congratulations to Marriott Library at University of Utah for achieving the same honor the next month.
A local patent attorney, Seth Reiss, was in our office to process a passport application. Emily asked him if he was willing to give a talk to our public users on some aspect of Intellectual Property with some emphasis on the upcoming America Invents Act. A “Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights” was given by Seth and Tracey Kubota on August 9, 2012 which was attended by about 40 people. A certified hit.
Unfortunately, we were unable to have someone register for this year’s training seminar. Hopefully, we can resume our representation in next year’s gathering.
