We wish you all a warm sunny aloha from our little slice of paradise in Hawaii. Arlene Nagamine and Stewart Chun have been left behind as Carole Suzui has accepted a permanent new assignment, which includes a promotion, with the State Librarian’s Office producing all the statistical reports for the library system. In Carole’s place, we are fortunate in having Emily Dovermann fill in while Carole was on extended assignment. If all goes well, Emily will be our representative at the next training seminar. I hope you get a chance to meet her and give her a big warm welcome.
Our small staff has been very busy on many fronts. Our website, www.librarieshawaii.org/feddocs, was moved because the old domain thought we were using too much of their resources. Our new site is in a more secured area, but the updates to the webpages will take longer to change. We have updated our patent resource handout to reflect the new changes of using PubWEST resources instead of Cassis. Our primary reason for sending Emily to the training seminar is so we can have more people learning how to use and teach classes in PubWEST. Hopefully, this activity will help us increase our traffic both in our library and on our webpage.
So far, we haven’t had much activity lately in people using our resources for trademark searching. I’m having difficulty in finding a way to market our library for that audience. This is something we will need to work on. Displays and posters don’t seem to draw them in like they used to.
On a related note, your humble PTRC representative was recently selected as Hawaii State Public Library System Employee of the Year, partly for my work dealing with the patent and trademark resources in our section. Everything I learned about patents and trademarks came from the training seminars I have attended over the years. Mahalo for helping me achieve this recognition.
All pau for now,
Stewart Chun
Your humble PTRC representative
