Submitted by: John Schlipp

The Highland Heights, Kentucky PTRC at Northern Kentucky University’s Steely Library interacted with nealry 600 customers via face-to-face reference or Zoom virtual reference, college class instruction, campus and community presentations, and workshops. Craig Morris, Managing Attorney for Trademark Educational Outreach at the USPTO, revisited our region on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. He presented a well-received, morning trademark workshop for businesses at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in Ft. Mitchell, KY. Later that evening, Craig provided an encore trademark program at the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County, our PTRC neighbor in Ohio. Here are publicity details about the Chamber event: https://web.nkychamber.com/events/Trademark-Basics-What-Your-Small-Business-Should-Know-Now-Not-Later-3246/details.

The Highland Heights PTRC representative, John Schlipp, traveled to present at two regional library professional development conferences about intellectual property awareness for library professionals: the first venue for both librarians and educators at the Miami University Libraries Copyright Conference in Oxford, Ohio on Thurdsday, September 26, 2019, and the second venue at the Kentucky Library Association Annual Conference on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

In addition, our PTRC supported K-12 outreach workshops, scholarly communication awareness sessions, partnered with nearby Thomas More University Library and Kenton County Public Library to introduced a Kentucky Inventors Database BETA site of historical patents at https://kyinventors.omeka.net/, and published related topical articles in the NKY Tribune, such as “Business Branding and Regional Trademarks,” at https://www.nkytribune.com/2019/09/our-rich-history-business-branding-and-regional-trademarks-some-recognized-globally/. Finally, John taught two sections of our Bachelor Degree three-credit hour, upper level course, LIN405 Intellectual Property and Information Rights, while completing and publishing his new textbook entitled, Intellectual Property and Information Rights for Librarians, (ABC-Clio, 2019), https://products.abc-clio.com/abc-cliocorporate/product.aspx?pc=A6068P.
