The University of Massachusetts Amherst Library has been part of the PTRC program since 1984 and I have been involved with the program since 2009. UMass Amherst PTRC serves the western part of the state while the Boston Public Library PTRC serves the eastern region. Located in the Science & Engineering Library, I am the only librarian involved in providing PTRC services to the community. Last spring we were fortunate enough to hire two new science & engineering librarians which in turn allowed me to reduce my liaison department assignments from twelve to five departments. I find dealing with patents and trademarks dovetails nicely with my other science subject responsibilities.
This past year I made a concerted effort to reach out to a number of programs on campus such as the UMass Innovation Challenge Competition, the newly branded Tech Transfer Office, and the Isenberg School of Management Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship. I am making many new connections around campus which will hopefully help the program grow and strengthen over the years.
There is still much work to be done, I need to update my patent & trademark LibGuide along with promoting information about the UMass Amherst Libraries fifty new 3D printers. Overall, I enjoy this part of my job due to the opportunity to learn new skills and to interact with a variety of people all across the campus and greater community.
