COLLEGE PARK (PTDL/PTRC since 1984) - Our big news this year is Bob Kackley's retirement, March 1st 2012. He had a lot of accumulated leave, so we really lost him at the beginning of December, and it is indeed a very big loss. He greatly increased our instruction efforts with dozens of departments, both graduate and undergraduate. He made sure that patent instruction was included in virtually all of these, and his creative and easy going marketing skills added a lot to our library service. For many years he also spearheaded community outreach, and we did a number of patent and trademark presentations for public libraries and a few companies as well. Bob's farewell party on January 31 drew many former EPSL staff and a few other former Libraries staff - truly a reunion of the "Old Guard", in addition to a good cross section of current staff of all levels.

A major project this year was the weeding and shifting of our closed stacks paper Tech Reports collection to a new space (still in Hornbake Library) just a short walk up the hill from us (the Engineering & Physical Sciences Library). Many of our students helped with this, directed by EPSL Manager Nevenka Zdravkovska and our other reference librarian Nedelina Tchangalova. We will soon lose the able assistance of our iSchool grad assistant Francy Stilwell who is graduating in May, but fortunately we were able to hire another iSchool student, Connor Wynn. They both hope to be at some of the Seminar training this year. Our major outreach has been to our own students and faculty, but we hope to include more community efforts in the coming year.
