Hawaii State Library

The Hawaii State Library has been a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) since December 18, 1989.  Our PTRC is a part of the Federal Documents Section, a selective Federal depository since May 31, 1929.  We are also a passport acceptance facility since July 15, 2003.

Emily Dovermann is the PTRC representative.  Due to a wave of COVID-19 retirements and the statewide hiring freeze, all other PTRC staff members except Emily—Ashley Kajioka, Mark Orimoto and Emelinda Casco—are on temporary assignments to fill the vacancies in other sections within the library.

The Hawaii State Library has been temporarily closed since March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, our PTRC services have been available by phone, email and in-person at the pickup service table in front of the library.

We haven’t been networking with our state and nonprofit entities during the pandemic, however, gratefully the Hawai'i Small Business Development Center and the Hawaii Pacific Export Council have been referring patrons to us.  In 2020 we received 52 walk-in, telephone and email requests and 95 website visits.
