In 2012 the PTRC in University Park at the Pennsylvania State University Libraries increased its collaboration with the Smeal College of Business and again hosted representatives from the USPTO. In September Mr. Craig Morris, Managing Attorney for Trademark Outreach, visited us to present the USPTO’s Trademark Educational Outreach Program to an audience of business, engineering, and entrepreneurial students. John Meier, the PTRC librarian, was invited to over a dozen classes to speak on intellectual property issues with special focus on the America Invents Act (AIA). Librarians at the Penn State Behrend and Altoona campuses also contributed strongly to the education of Penn State students at their campuses in patent and trademark information. John’s chapter on patents in the book “The Busy Librarian’s Guide to Information Literacy in Science and Engineering” was finally published in August 2012.
